The VR centre that is set to open by the end of Q3 2019 is a brainchild of Iskandar Innovations Sdn Bhd (IISB) and KT Corporation from South Korea.
A Virtual Reality (VR) Centre of Excellence is set to be the latest attraction in Iskandar Puteri that is already home to several international theme parks such as LEGOLAND Malaysia in Medini and Sanrio Hello Kitty Town and Thomas Town in Puteri Harbour. Both organisations (IISB-KT) had announced the plan during the Joint Venture document exchange ceremony in Iskandar Puteri this week.
“The state government is delighted to welcome another FDI into Johor, and we are committed to supporting and facilitating both local and foreign investors. As we have modern infrastructure, easy accessibility, an abundance of resources and strong government support, I hope government agencies and private sectors can collaborate and collectively promote the influx of investments into Iskandar Malaysia,” said Jimmy Puah, Chairman of International Trade, Investment and Utilities Committee of Johor.
Datuk Ir. Khairil Anwar Ahmad, President/Chief Executive Officer of Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) said “The collaboration with KT Corporation is going to kickstart an up-and-coming digital technology ecosystem revolving around the Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality technology in Iskandar Puteri. We have listed five main components in our long-term plan to position Iskandar Puteri as a digital nexus - VR Theme Park, Education, Esports, Research & Development and Marketplace”.
“I am indeed delighted to have a partnership in Augmented Reality (AR) and VR with IIB, one of the leading and most inspirational companies in Malaysia. We will put out utmost effort in catalytic projects and other businesses in Malaysia by providing various ICT technologies,” said Kwon Oryung, Vice President of KT Global Business, Head of Global Strategic Investment, KT Corporation.
IISB is a wholly owned subsidiary of IIB and tasked to spearhead digital and technology developments in the Iskandar Malaysia region, particularly in Flagship B, i.e. Iskandar Puteri. This partnership with KT Corporation is expected to accelerate the development of AR/VR in Medini, an area that is poised to be the new Central Business District of Iskandar Malaysia.
