Over 50 professionals, software developers, IoT experts and programmers from all over Malaysia, Singapore, Middle East and the Maldives participated in The Grand Challenge Hackathon Series in Iskandar Space, Iskandar Puteri from 7th to 9th September 2018.
Participants spend 36 hours collaborating and creating new ways to develop promotions for Iskandar Puteri region through Smart Tourism by developing autonomous robots, Artificial Intelligence chatbots, Singapore-Johor travel booking applications, Community driven travel platforms and more.
Eight teams reached the finals and presented their solutions to the panel of judges from various backgrounds and Iskandar Investment Berhad would pick one or few of these solutions based on creativity, marketability, uniqueness and impact on the Minimum Viable Product exhibits to enhance visitor’s experience in Iskandar Puteri. The three winning teams were awarded RM12,000 cash prizes and RM3,000 worth of prizes from the sponsors.
The Grand Challenge aims to bridge the gap between hackathon partners and start-ups to create a vibrant start-up ecosystem in Malaysia. Two other hackathons with their own themes and strategic partners took place in Penang and Kuching. The final hackathon series will take place in Kuala Lumpur from 21 to 23 September 2018. A total of over RM 75,000 cash and RM 20,000 worth of gifts will be given out during The Grand Challenge Hackathon Series 2018 finals.
