A Greener Future For SK Sungai Danga Students

40 students and teachers from SK Sungai Danga had a field day exploring and eating freshly plucked flowers and fruits from Edible Park, Medini Green Parks.

A perky lot of standard four and five students from Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB)’s adopted school had fun completing the day’s programme which includes an educational tour, a visit to the park's nursery, a flower-pounding art workshop and even a Roselle flower beverage tasting.

However, what surprised them the most was an arrangement of carefully-packed ‘Nasi Bunga’ from the folks of Tanjung Langsat who plays a part in this thriving eco-system which includes villagers in Iskandar Puteri.

SK Sungai Danga's assistant principal, Hajah Norhayati A. Kahar, said, “The students were excited about the prospect of spending a day in the park the minute they were told about this field trip. Now, they are equally excited upon learning about the edible garden, its objective and simplicity. You can see that they cannot wait to start one at home!"

“We thank IIB for making learning fun and easy and hope that more parties will offer similar holistic learning experience such as this,” added the veteran educator.

Adibah Syuhadah Abu Mansor, a standard four student, was happy that the trip had enabled her to learn more about plants, and she found the flower-pounding workshop most intriguing, “I did not know that flowers and leaves could form beautiful patterns and their colours could be transferred easily to cloth.”

As a continuity of this programme, IIB will start a smaller edible garden at the school. The project will kick off next month with plants from the lime, ladyfinger, eggplant, chilli and papaya families dominating the landscape as they are easy to grow and quick to produce.

Edible Park is open daily, and it is one of the 46 parks that can be found in Medini, Iskandar Puteri. Home to tourism and sporting magnets such as LEGOLAND Malaysia Resort, Puteri Harbour and EduCity Sports Complex, Iskandar Puteri has received millions of visitors since its inception in 2006.
