We are very proud to announce the second edition of Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival, happening 8 September 2018 in Marina Walk, Puteri Harbour.
Ten acts from around the world will feature in the biggest edition of our city's fledgling jazz festival. This year, the festival has upped the ante on diversity and musical curation to showcase some of the top international acts in classical and experimental jazz. Catch celebrated musicians and pop-up creative and artisanal bazaars when the festival takes place in Iskandar Puteri this September.
This year, the festival has upped the ante on diversity and musical curation to showcase some of the most-respected live performers in classical and experimental jazz. Showcasing a stronger Asian flavour with a focus on regional talent, the second annual Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival aims to position itself as one of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant jazz concerts.
The latest line-up feature a large variety of musical influences. Iranian duo Kayhan Kalhor & Kiya Tabassian are set to bring an unmistakably middle-eastern influence through instruments such as the traditional Iranian setar. Guitarist Robin Banerjee, famed for his work with Amy Winehouse, will present a collaborative performance featuring several longtime musical companions. On the Nusantara front, beloved Singaporean artist Aisyah Aziz will co-headline the festival alongside acclaimed live acts Barry Likumahuwa and Agis Kania from Indonesia.
There will also be curated markets featuring artisanal edibles and sustainably-produced goods courtesy of social enterprise Johor Green, as well as a collectors bazaar from local collective Johor Pickers. Set in the elegant landscape of Marina Walk, the city’s premier waterfront lifestyle and entertainment complex, the second Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival promises many dining and recreational options for those in town this September.
Inaugurated last year, the Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival is rapidly growing into a destination for music enthusiasts due to its emphasis on musical excellence and showmanship. Members of the public get an opportunity to catch renowned jazz performers and live singers from around the world at this annual event. Some of 2017’s major draws include Havana Social Club, Michael Pigneguy & The Awakenings Ensemble, and Sound of Siam among many others.

ORQUESTA YAMBEQUE (AU)
Hailing from Perth, Orquesta Yambeque is WA’s Premier Latin Ensemble working with the best latin musicians in the country. The band offers a very unique and tailor-made Salsa. Yambeque feel very privileged to share and interpret all the traditional music from the Caribbean Coast of Colombia , the sound of the 70s and the Golden Era of Salsa in New York and Puerto Rico. Hear the all time greats from Havana, Cuba, and the romantic classics from Venezuela.
BARRY LIKUMAHUWA (IDN)
Barry Likumahuwa is a bass player from Jakarta, Indonesia. The son of a bossa nova singer and a jazz musician, Barry took to music at a young age. Currently, he is the leader of BLP, a contemporary jazz group incorporating hip-hop and traditional West Javanese, Moluccan & Balinese influences. He has performed at major festivals in Indonesia, such as the Java Jazz Festival, as well as international festivals, including the Taichung Jazz Festival and Vienna Jazz Festival, and renowned clubs such as No Black Tie in Kuala Lumpur and the Blue Note in Tokyo.
ROBIN BANERJEE & FRIENDS (UK & MY)
London-based Robin Banerjee is an exceptional guitarist and had the fortune of being Amy Winehouse's guitarist, appearing on the 5-time Grammy Award winning album, 'Back To Black' deluxe version CD. He played the guitar on 6 tracks including the acoustic version of Valerie, Monkey Man and Cupid. Robin is the featured guitarist on all of Amy's Live DVD releases including 'Live In London' and 'Live In Dingle'. Robin is also part of “Amy Lives” which contains members of the original Amy Winehouse live band and it features a few different singers. They have been making waves in a few countries like Spain, Italy, Brazil and many more.
AISYAH AZIZ (SG)
Aisyah Aziz first became known to audiences both at home and across the Causeway after participating in Malaysian reality TV singing competition Akademi Fantasia in 2013. Since then, she's been on the up-and-up, picking up three awards (of nine nominations) at Anugerah Planet Muzik last October. Her duet with fellow Singaporean singer Haikal Ali, 'Senyum Saja', won Best APM Song and Best Song (Singapore) at the regional Malay music awards show.
AZMI HAIRUDIN & FRIENDS (MY & IDN)
One of the most diverse, in demand sax players in all of contemporary jazz, Azmi Hairudin finds pure joy at the heart of his increasingly fast-paced touring schedule by reminding himself, every time he gets on stage, that he’s there to do one thing: Play!
THE FRANKIE SIXES (MY)
Consisting of Reza Salleh, Sharon Chong, Dave Tebari and Sudin; they are a band that plays swing jazz. Life goals is to play their hearts out, perfecting jazz-face and getting people to dance.
KAYHAN KALHOR & KIYA TABASSIAN (IR)
Persian improvisation duo -- Kayhan Kalhor, Grammy Award-winning master of the kamancheh (Persian spike fiddle) and, Kiya Tabassian, setar (Persian lute).
KIRANA KAY & GROOVE MESSENGER (MY & IDN)
Kirana Kay is a Kuala Lumpur-based vocalist with traditional and contemporary jazz with a little blend of Latin varieties. She creates exciting live music experience and fresh arrangements making her jazz performance more lively than ever. She will be performing with Groove Messenger, an Acid Jazz Indonesian band playing since 1997 with 7 musicians.
AGIS KANIA (IDN)
Agis Kania (Agis Kania Kusumadewi) is a woman of Sundanese, Chinese and Indian descent. Agis (her nickname) grew up in a musical family. Since her childhood throughout her college years, she regularly won singing competitions, at both regional and national levels. While she was only in high school, Agis sang and recorded the anthem of her hometown Sukabumi (a Sundanese pop tune) which eventually became iconic there.
EE JENG ORGAN TRIO (MY)
Ee Jeng is highly in demand professional musician in the pop and jazz scene both locally and internationally. He performs modern jazz and R&B soul music.
Another form of evolution comes in the form of her brand itself. Discarding her old name Najwa Mahiaddin, she now prefers to be branded simply as NJWA. Immediately, images of a progressive and modern artiste is conjured up. NJWA’s idiosyncratic blend of traditional and contemporary music proves that the new needs a little old sometimes, and when done right it can produce an exquisite sound.
GROUND PASSENGER (MY)
Ground Passenger is a band project started in 2016 by music educator and drummer, Terrence Ling Hung Shu. The band made their debut performance in No Black Tie then later performed in Publika Jazz Festival in 2016 and 2017. The band also performed at the International Jazz Day Celebration Concert in Bobo KL in 2017. Besides Terrence Ling provides the grooves, Sylvia Wong provides the harmonies and AJ Popshuvit connects the grooves and the harmonies through holding a single low note and some fill-ins, Clinton Jerome who was the Champion of JBL Rising Stars 2018 will be exposing the awesomeness from his vocal cord.
