‘Iskandar Puteri Mayor Belt’ and ‘EduCity Belt’ are up for grabs 


ISKANDAR PUTERI, 20th December 2018 —80 amateur and professional boxers from Malaysia, Singapore, Austria, Afghanistan, Palestine, France, Iran and Thailand are in high gear to display their best combat sports actions at the EduCity Kombat League 2018 (EKL 2018).  Scheduled for 29 December 2018 at EduCity Sports Complex, Iskandar Puteri, the event is organised by EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Boxxtomoi Asia and supported by Iskandar Investment Bhd, Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri, Tourism Johor and Majlis Sukan Negeri Johor. It features a list of strong contenders, each eyeing for the newly-introduced Iskandar Puteri Mayor Belt and EduCity Belt. 

“EduCity has been a strong supporter of the sports excellence aspiration and has been organising a host of championships and tournaments for the past three years, including those in extreme sports such as kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, combat sports and boxing. It is also keen to promote Iskandar Puteri as a sports destination, taking advantage of the city’s modern and comprehensive infrastructure and its community’s keen interest in healthy lifestyle. To keep this momentum going, we will also organise EduCity Duathlon 2019 and EduCity Spartan Race 2019 on 23 February and 23 March 2019,” said Mr. Wan Ahmad Saifuddin, Director of EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd.  

Mr. Musaddik Zainuddin, Director of Project Boxxtomoi Asia added that event is set to introduce a new style of combat sports. “We assembled some of the best fighters in Judo, MMA, Boxing, Silat and other disciplines in Iskandar Puteri and hoped to unearth some new talents.”

16 professional boxers have confirmed their participation in EKL 2018 including Jihin Radzuan, a Johor-born athlete who won the ‘One Championship’ title for three consecutive years, Mohd Fakhrul Izzat Affandi or ‘Mokjudo’, another Johorean who is a 10-time national judo champion as well as MIMMA5 Middleweight Champion, and Don Sulaiman, a Palestinian MMA superstar. The one-day event will be action-packed with female contenders such as Jihin ‘Shadow Cat’ displaying their durability in the ring, and amateurs as young as 16 years old, carving their marks in the industry. 

On 29 December, amateur bouts start at 11 am to 5 pm, and professionals will take centre stage from 8 pm onwards.
